🇨🇦 What is Canada’s Start-Up Visa (SUV) Program?
The Start-Up Visa (SUV) Program is a federal immigration pathway designed for foreign entrepreneurs with the potential to build innovative businesses in Canada, create local jobs, and compete globally.
This program offers a direct pathway to permanent residence (PR) without first needing a temporary work permit—though applicants may choose to enter Canada on a work permit while waiting for PR approval.

Qualified Business / Start-up Idea
Must be innovative, scalable, and capable of creating jobs in Canada.
Letter of Support from a Designated Organization
Support can come from:
Venture Capital Fund
Angel Investor Group
Business Incubator

Language Proficiency
English or French at CLB 5 (about IELTS 5.0) in all four skills (listening, speaking, reading, writing).
Proof of Funds
Applicants must show sufficient settlement funds and cannot borrow from Canadian institutions.
For 2025, the required minimum is CAD $14,690 for one person, with additional amounts per family member (see IRCC guidelines).
Up to 5 founders can apply together
At least one must hold majority voting rights and secure a Letter of Support; otherwise, the entire group’s application will be refused.

Prepare a Start-Up Idea / Business Plan
Develop an innovative business concept or early-stage company.
Secure Support from a Designated Organization
Pitch to venture capital funds, angel investors, or incubators.
If approved, obtain a Letter of Support.
Submit Permanent Residence Application
Include Letter of Support, language test results, proof of funds, etc.
Spouse and dependent children may be included.
Optional: Apply for a Work Permit
If you wish to launch your business earlier, you may apply for a temporary work permit.
Receive PR Status upon approval
